Sharm- El- Sheikh, Egypt

Sharm-El-Sheikh (Bay of the Sheikh) is a resort area on the southern end of the Sinai Peninsula on the Red Sea.

Whilst it is famous as a snorkeling and diving center it is also an all-year holiday destination as there is virtually no rainfall. There is even an 18 hole golf course near Na'ama Bay! Na'ama Bay is the busiest part of Sharm with many restaurants lining the waterfront promenade and a range of traditional shops plus "western" restaurants such as Hard Rock Café, TGI Fridays, KFC and McDonalds.

Other activities are varied and diverse including a wide range of casinos, desert trips and even ice skating in the middle of the desert!

A variety of trips can be arranged from the area with the most local and historical being Mount Moses - the famous Biblical mountain - and the highest on Sinai. Also Saint Catherine Monastery is about a 2 hour drive from Sharm and is one of the older Christian shrines.

There are numerous well-known hotels such as:

  • Baron Resort

  • Le Meridien

  • The Four Seasons

  • Hilton

  • Marriott Beach Resort

At the western end of the resort is "Old Sharm" where there are numerous local restaurants, a variety of nightlife and many "ahways" - local cafes offering water pipes in addition to coffee and tea. Click here for pictures.
