The Kontours website is maintained by father and son team, Mike and
Olly. This page explains a little about us both, and a little about
the website too. We hope that you find it interesting to read, and a
useful insight into the people behind Kontours!
Mike first had the
idea for Kontours in around 2004 when he realized that even though
the Internet and the World Wide Web had expanded rapidly, there were
still few sites that you could go to which would provide free,
impartial travel advice and information. Mike had always had a
passion for traveling and thought of the vast stacks of traditional
film photographs taking up space in the attic, and the many
megabytes of digital images stored on his home computer in addition
to his knowledge of places and a keen interest in geography.
Unfortunately, Mike
doesn't have a great deal of knowledge when it comes to constructing
websites, but thankfully his son, Olly, had built a few small sites
here and there, and was adamant that together the Kontours venture
needed to begin.
As a result of this
the first Kontours website was released in 2005, and evolved into
its current state today through a gradual process of Mike fitting in
time to maintain the site around his full-time day job, and Olly
around his studies at college and university.
Since then, the site has received over 30,000 page loads in
its short history and the only revenue earned from the website is
through a limited amount of sponsored advertising on various pages. |
